Anki Post Production! =D

October 1, 2010

Alright, I know I’ve been pretty bad about updating lately, and honestly, I thought I was going to be for a little while longer. Still, I got bitten with an urge to write, and I have finally finished my Anki review! =D

Course, I finished at 6am, and since I still haven’t gone to sleep, I don’t really trust myself to catch any mistakes, let alone grab the images and work on putting together the actual page tonight, but it should be up by tomorrow night! =D

Wow, now that my Anki review is done, I’m going to have to actually move on to something else! I’ve been thinking about doing Lang-8 as my next review, if for no other reason than because it’ll force me to stop being lazy and fully check out the site, but I guess we’ll have to see about that tomorrow, I’m too tired to make such decisions right now. =P

Man, what other big news is going on with me? My cat has gone back to the vet, they gave her a little more antibiotics, but she’s going to be just fine! =D As though that wasn’t enough, on the same day, Nintendo held its… thing that I can’t remember the name of. =P They finally gave a release date on the 3DS (which has done nothing but impress me), and just after it ended I got one of the greatest game announcements I’ve heard in YEARS.

Capcom is releasing… Megaman Legends 3 for the 3DS! O.O ^.^

Seriously, this has been like the best year for Megaman announcements I’ve ever seen. First we get told about Megaman Universe, and then I find out that we’re getting a sequel to a game series that has been ignored for 10 years! =P

Alright, I’m gushing a bit on Megaman, but I’m tired, I’ll do that. I mean, you’re talking to a guy who hasn’t played a Megaman game and ended up disliking it. That’s an impressive statement when you think of some of the Megaman games I’ve played, including Megaman Soccer, and some of the… “lacking” X sequels. =P

Now, I must force myself to sleep, or my desire to type will keep me up until well past the sun has risen. In addition to putting up the review tomorrow, I’m going to also add a few more link (which I said I would put up a few days ago… I’ve been a little busy =P)! =D おやすみなさい! =D

Well, I have to go to bed early, again.

July 1, 2010

That’s okay though, I’m actually feeling pretty tired right now. I’m not exactly sure why, but it’s even messing with my typing. =\

Well, I’m currently searching for a place where I can read a lot of Japanese. I’m not entirely sure what I’m looking for, maybe some kind of message board, but I think it would really help with deciding what to add to my lesson plans. If I had a chance to see how words are commonly used in sentences, and which words I consider to be frequent, I think it would be a good start on putting together a collection without having to rely on pre-made lists.

Course, I still need to find a good place for this. I’m actually tempted to check out Lang-8 again, maybe go through things people have corrected and see how they use the various sentences. While that might work out really well, I think I’m also going to look into some sort of message board.

I’d still really love to find a show like Friends or Seinfeld in Japanese, but it doesn’t look like that’ll happen any time soon. There needs to be a Japanese Hulu, that would just make my life so much easier. Again, it’s not that Anime doesn’t work, it’s more of a problem with the specific animes that tend to become available to me. I’m learning words like different the ranks in the military when I want to learn to talk about how bad my day was at work. =P Ah well, I can’t really blame them for that, since I do enjoy most of those anime, but it would be nice to have a more “everyday” kind of show, rather than what I’m currently finding. I guess I could look into some of the more “spice of life” anime, but my understanding is those tend to be heavily Shoujo, and I imagine I would get bored pretty quickly. Still, it might be worth it just to have something closer to “every day Japanese” as a reference.

Well, I’m sure I’m just rambling now, and I really don’t have a good reason to do that, what with it being late (ish) and me being tired and all. Alright, I guess I’ll shuffle off to sleep. おやすみなさい! =D

Time to add more Kanji. =D

June 1, 2010

Well, it’s time to add more onto my list again. It’s likely a little slower then it should be, I really should find some time to do more than one run through of the cards a day. I mean, at this rate, all 2,000 kanji will take forever. =P

You know, I still haven’t fully checked out the program I’ve been using yet. I’ve only really used it for my own flashcards, there are supposed to be quite a few pre-made decks that I should go through at some point. Maybe I’ll review Anki next. I mean, it’s a generic flashcard program, but it was initially designed to help teach you Japanese, so maybe it would be something good to cover.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I’m really kind of grasping for straws on this next review. Since I’m out of store bought material, I’d like to cover something that’s pretty widely available/known, that way I can cover something people would be interested in. Course, it’s kind of hard to decide what that is. I guess I could give Lang-8 another go, that could be an interesting review. But is it really fair to review something that’s mostly user based?

Like, if I had issues with people improperly correcting my sentences at Lang-8 (this hasn’t happened, I still really need to try the page, but I’m still going to use it as an example =P), would it really be fair to bring something like that up in a review? It’s not the page’s fault that something like that happened, and another user could very easily never experience the same issue. I don’t know, I’ll still have to think over writing a review for something like that.

Once again I must abandon you. おやすみなさい! =D

March 17, 2010

Well, today (actually today was just one of many times, I tend to forget these kind of things =P) it was recommended to me that I check out Lang-8, a language exchange website.

So, what’s Lang-8? Well, it’s basically a site that has you post about anything you really feel like/are capable of talking about. Once you’re done, your fellow Lang-8 members will go through and correct any mistakes you make, allowing you to learn from native users of the language.

What does it cost? Nothing. The site is more of a community help project. You get the benefit of having people review what you post about, and in turn you can review what other people post about and post corrections for them.

Now, I have to admit, I think this is a great idea. I can certainly see how a site like this could be very useful. But, I don’t think it’s what I’ve been looking for.

See, when it comes to language learning, I’m more of a reactive kind of guy. I have a lot of trouble coming up with various different things to type about (as I’m sure anyone following my page can see), and I’m still really lacking in vocabulary. So, I think I’d be better off having an honest to goodness pen-pal, if for no other reason than because I’ll be given something to respond to. Plus, instead of just staying within the Japanese I know/look up, I’ll be forced to see how a native speaker uses it, and I think that would let me pick up a wider range of vocabulary.

So, does that mean I don’t want to use Lang-8? Of course not, in-fact, I’ve already made an account. I just don’t think it’s really going to work as a replacement for the pen-pal experience.

Any other stuff of interest? Well, I’ve actually done quite a bit. My Rosetta Stone review is already larger than my Let’s Learn Japanese Basic II:Yan and the Japanese People review, and I’ve just now moved passed the box and general packaging. =P This is kind of my largest project, so I’m trying to be thorough. Plus, I’m working on getting screen-shots to show things I liked and disliked about the program.

In addition to that, I was reminded today about Squire Starsquid’s WordPress blog. So, since I’ve been absolutely terrible about it, I have finally added a link to his blog in my Links section. =D

I unfortunately didn’t get much studying in tonight. But, I did some basic review, and that’s better than nothing. I should have some more time to spend on that (and my Rosetta Stone review) tomorrow, as the only major thing I have planned is a hair cut (it’s time to lose my shaggy mane).

Okay, what’s with asking a question and then answering it? I’m tired, so I tend to do strange things like that. =P

Alright, I seem to be going on for a considerable about of time, I guess it’s time to stop myself and head to bed. おやすみなさい (Oyasumi nasai)!=D
