Busy but delicious days coming (and also, haircut).

August 31, 2010

Well, I’ve got a busy couple of days coming, but it’ll all be for the best in the end. While my game didn’t arrive today, it should be showing up tomorrow, just in time for me to have other things that need to be done. =P But, in addition to that, I should be receiving, what I hope to be, very delicious pretzels in a quantity that is, quite frankly, ridiculous.

With active days coming again, I guess I should really try to hammer out that review. I know, writers block isn’t a great excuse, but it’s what I’ve got! =P I’ll see what I can do, and that’s the best I can promise you. =P

In more personal news, I need a haircut. Seems like a rather straightforward thing to need, but my circumstances have actually changed in regards to this. You see, my mom has been cutting my hair since… well, forever. I don’t believe I have ever gotten my hair cut by anyone else. But, with her in a wheelchair, and me just generally being large and rather inflexible, managing to make it so she can comfortably reach my hair is somewhat difficult. So, I find myself in need of a solution.

Now, in addition to my mom doing my hair since I was a pouchling (I love that term), I have actually had the same hairstyle since then too. I mean, it works on me, so why bother to change it? But, not really having an official “name” for my hairstyle makes it kind of hard to convey to a barber, especially since I know absolutely nothing about cutting hair. To make all of this even worse, nobody I know goes to a barber anywhere near here. I know someone who has his sister cut his hair, but she’s away at college, and another person I know goes to his aunt, who lives out of state, etc, etc, etc…

So, my options at this point are actually fairly open. I could go and pay about $15-$25 to get my haircut at someone I don’t know, and they might manage to do a good job, or I can take another option that has presented itself. Now, I’m not big on change, but let’s face it, if I have to try something new and possibly completely crazy, I might as well choose the most interesting option. What’s the most interesting option you ask? Buy some clippers and learn to cut my hair myself!

I know, it sounds downright crazy, but as it turns out, many people have managed to do it, and come up with some interesting hairstyles along the way. Granted, I could look really stupid by the time I’m done, but the same thing could happen from a visit to a barber I don’t know too. Then, of course, there’s the advantage of cost. Even if I screw up this time, it’s a one time cost of $40 for the clippers, which is just two visits to the barber, not a bad deal at all (and I’ll have until the day those clippers die to come up with a hairstyle that actually works).

I might be somewhat insane for trying it, but at the same time, I’ve never been much of a person to care about how I look, so worst case scenario I wander around for a month or two looking like an idiot. Course, and this could just be the fact that I’m tired and typing this up, it could end up working out very well, and I manage to solve my newly arrived hair problem on the first day, living happily ever after never having to worry about who is going to do my haircuts.

Yep, I must be tired. Alright, time for me to head off to bed, it’s late, and I’ve got stuff to do tomorrow. おやすみなさい! =D

I can almost taste the pretzels!

August 30, 2010

I find myself completely without anything interesting to type about again. I know I’ve had that a lot lately, but today I have a good excuse. It is not caused by my laziness (and believe me, I’m a very lazy individual), but rather, it’s caused by the fact that I’ve had a headache all day long. Not a single thing I’ve taken for it has worked, and I sit here now, only awake because I knew I’d have trouble sleeping with it.

Still, if there’s one way to get over a headache, it’s to sleep and wake up without it (my personal favorite treatment). It’s not always easy to accomplish, but it’s the most pleasant method I’ve come to learn. Course, as an obvious counter to that, the worst way to get a headache is to wake up with it, that’s just endlessly annoying.

Wow, did I really just ramble on for two paragraphs about my headache? It’s because I’m tired, normally it would be 3 or 4! =P Well, I should be getting fallout 3 tomorrow, which is nice for me (but not likely a good thing for my Japanese studies). So… yeah, that’s what I’ve got for you. I’d love to post a video of an adorable animal for you, but I don’t really feel like digging one up (headaches can do that to me). So, it seems you’re just left with my amazingly entertaining post about my headache (which, it actually has been a decent amount of time since I had one, finally moving out of that season).

Alright, I’ll stop (I tend to get somewhat single minded when I’m tired =P). おやすみなさい! =D

Very quick post.

August 29, 2010

Sorry to keep this one short, but I seem to have completely lost track of the time! Ah well, I do that too often, course, not usually this bad, but still.

So, what do I have for you tonight? Well, I’ve found out that I should have the pretzels on Tuesday (for those who care), and I found an unbelievably cute video today, and that gets to be your entertainment. I was planning on putting it at the end of a longer post, but it is what it is. =P

And that’s it for me. I know, I’m terrible, but at least I posted something before heading to bed, I could have just not. =P おやすみなさい! =D

Strange references. =P

August 28, 2010

I do love some of the links that end up leading to my page. Why just today I was directed to by some sort of financial webpage. I have no idea why my info would be on there, but if it helps people with their language learning, I’m all for it. =P

In truth, I have stayed up considerably later than I should have this evening, and I really should be heading off to sleep. Still, I’d feel bad if I skipped typing up a post again, as I’ve been doing that a lot lately, and it’s getting a bit “too easy” to convince myself to just head to bed, after all, it’s not like I have much interesting stuff to type about.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but this is pretty much what this post is going to be. I should do more, but it’s a little late for me to try and come up with something to entertain you all. So, as with previous posts with nothing interesting enjoy your cute Sugar Glider videos! おやすみなさい! =D

Edit:Sorry, the second video isn’t loading, and I’m too tired to fix it right now. I guess that one will have to wait. =\

August 27, 2010

Well, my days haven’t been very exciting lately. I found myself trapped talking to family members that I didn’t want to talk to, and I ended up walking 4 miles today for no good reason. It wasn’t all bad, I’ve been playing the original Grandia, spending some time practicing Japanese, and placing a glorious order.

Now, I know this post isn’t really about Japanese, but I’m out of interesting material, so work with me here. =P So, what is this post about? Well, I’m a big fan of pretzels. Everything from the generic bags of pretzel sticks to the giant soft pretzels, I enjoy every incarnation I have come across. However, when I was young, Nabisco, of all companies, made this very large blue box with a little pretzel guy right on the cover. These were called “Mr.Salty Pretzel Stix”, and they were GLORIOUS!

I have no idea what they did to make them this good, but you couldn’t make a better pretzel if you tried. Unfortunately, many years ago, Nabisco pulled the product from the market, and pretzel lovers all of the world have since been in a state of mourning. Well, it turns out a company, just a few years ago, “rented” the recipe from Nabisco, and actually starting making them again! Unfortunately, I didn’t hear about it while they were actually being made! Well, they have since lost the right to continue making, but have created their own, that’s supposed to be very similar, and many consider it an ample replacement.

So, managing to track down a some of these (actually, it’s 12 boxes in a total size of 10lbs =P), I have just payed $20 for these pretzels, and they should be arriving in just a few days. For those of you interested they’re called HK Anderson Pretzels:Ultrathin Stix. For those of you in fear for my pretzel loving health, fear not, I shall not be eating them alone. What’s more, since I have a habit of reviewing stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of this blog, I’ll be writing a brief review for these once they actually show up! =D

So, once might consider it sad that some of the best news I’ve had in the last few days is about pretzels, but I say that just means you never actually had the original Mr.Salty!

Now that you all have been informed of my coming buffet of EPICNESS, I must leave you all to sleep in my soft comfortable bed. For you see, I have spent so long typing about these, that it is in fact, completely inappropriate for me to continue staying awake! おやすみなさい! =D

Things are starting to calm down. =D

August 25, 2010

Well, with my players not getting back to me about the D&D game I had planned in a few days, I seem to be hitting a couple of days where I don’t have much to do!

So, how does one fill this gap in time? Well, I’m going to make myself put in more work on my Japanese. I’ve been pretty lazy about it, and I really do need to try to force my way out of this slump. In addition to all of this, I have another promising attempt at a language exchange partner that I’m going to try writing to tomorrow.

And for all of you following this little blog of mine, I didn’t forget, I’ll be trying to finish off my review over the next two or three days too. It shouldn’t be delayed, but I guess that depends on whether or not my players get back to me at the last minute. =P

In other news, I’m going to be getting Fallout 3 in a couple of days. Personally, I ADORED the original two games. I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not I’d like 3 (I do love Morrowind, but I’m not sure if they could pull off the right “feel” for Fallout). Well, I decided that I didn’t care how it turned out, I had to buy this game. In truth, all the good reviews made me want it even more, but there’s one thing that made me delay.

From everything I was reading, there was nothing but a slew of issues with this game, and since I’d be getting the PS3 version, I really didn’t want to repeatedly hard reset my PS3 just to play one game that I might not even like. Well, having recently looked into it again, it seems they have solved these issues (as long as I don’t get the downloadable content), and I shall now get to finally see if I like the game. I know, if I have that much free time to play a video game, I should beat FFXIII, but that’s still pretty hard for me.

It’s not so much the vocabulary that keeps me from FFXIII, it’s the number of Kanji I know. I mean, I can look up a lot of words I consider important, but it’s a pain to lookup that many Kanji manually, even with the method created for my dictionary. So, I think a proper run through of that will still have to wait a bit. Not that I don’t play it every now and then, but it’s slow going, so I haven’t actually gotten all that far. =P

Well, now that my busy days are done, I’m off to lick my wounds and recover. おやすみなさい! =D

More to do than I thought.

August 23, 2010

Well, I didn’t end up taking yesterday off, instead I got today off. Things like that tend to happen, I never seem to be able to tell how a day is going to go. =P

Well, despite spending more time with my review, I still haven’t managed to finish it. I know what you’re thinking, “how could he possibly have more to write about this thing?”. Well, the sad truth is, I keep destroying what I wrote and starting over. This one is a rough thing for me to review. I guess I have an easier time when there’s something to complain about in my review. Even with Yan, I had a lot of stuff to cover, and still had plenty of things I could complain about.

With Anki, it’s basically a collection of options, so you can either use, or not use what they offer to fit your needs. While it wouldn’t be hard to write a review for something like that, I’m finding it difficult to write an entertaining review for that. While I don’t consider myself a great author for the ages, I do like to think that I manage to be entertaining in my reviews (well, in most of them). And really, this is a review of a free program, the only way I can make the work worth it is if I manage to entertain you while doing it. =P

Course, I haven’t really decided what I’m going to move onto after this review. Right now I’m thinking I’ll do Lang-8. I kind of forgot about that site for a while (yeah, I know), so I haven’t really gotten a chance to use it much. At the very least it would be some good practice for me, and I might even end up liking it. =P

Alright, I’ve got quite a bit of stuff to do tomorrow, so it’s off to bed with me. I feel bad about not finishing it again, but it is what it is. Hey, it’s hard enough to work through writer’s block when I have something I can rampantly bash *cough*Rosetta Stone*cough*. おやすみなさい! =D

P.S. As a parting gift, since I’m lacking a review for you all. I leave you with a baby sparrow eating! =P
